why? im a hardware guy, not so much a network guy. And even if I could test the port, I still have to go through crappy AT&T customer service to get it unblocked.

had same problem with a photocopier scan to e-mail , inner firewall and external firewall ok , data goes in at&t mail server but it just vanish .

did direct connection no problem . just problem with small packets.

at&t just kept on telling me "no problem on our server side i will escalade call to my superior"

I've had the same problem for a year, now, and have had to use the Web interface whenever I wanted to send email from home.

Just got off the phone with AT&T. At first the guy had no clue what to do. He wanted me to change the host to smtp.att.yahoo.com:465. Needless to say that did not work. After reading him the parts of this post he was able to unblock the port.
