::Volfann::

  • Real Name: Kevin
  • Age: 48
  • Marital Status: Married to a Cardiac RN
  • Occupation: Retired/Stay-at-home dad
  • Hometown: Middle Tennessee
  • Pets: 2 dogs and 2 cats
  • Toilet Paper Over or Under?: over

For those of you who frequent the forums or Newegg Trivia Challenge, Volfann is no stranger.  He’s a helpful hand or an innovative quizmaster, depending on where you find him.

Volfann was born and raised in middle Tennessee and is retired from manufacturing supervision and quality assurance.  By his own admission, he’s “an avid movie watcher and critic,” but on television, he prefers to watch Discovery, A&E and the History Channel documentaries (where he finds inspiration for his trivia questions).

He’s also the proud father of 6 kids, ranging in age from 5 to 29.  “The children keep me too busy to do much else since they have much more energy than I do now.”  His youngest is getting ready to enter kindergarten and his oldest is serving in the Air Force, which helped him make the decision to donate his Uber prize (a $100 gift card) to Dagger, another forum member who’s serving in Iraq.  “I'm still shocked about having the Uber title bestowed upon me.  It was honor enough just to be nominated.”

His favorite forum currently is the Off-topic Debates: “We have some very insightful people posting there on a variety of topics. Genseneca posts some of the best political satire that I have seen anywhere.”  And though he refrains from taking part in the discussions, he enjoys following them.  “There seems to be a forum to suit anyone’s tastes which I feel is necessary to build a strong community. There are many forums where you can go and talk about computers, but not that many I know of where you can discuss your computer and then go talk about your favorite car or movie.”

The Newegg Trivia Challenge was also his idea.  “As an Uber, I felt the need to try and start something that all forum members could enjoy doing and hopefully keep them coming back to the forum.”  He says that it’s off to a good start, with several members playing every day.  “It gives the members a chance to socialize a bit and laugh at themselves when they have a bad score.  It's all in good fun and that's what matters most. Of course I thought I would devastate the competition, but so far, that isn't happening. We have some very good players right now.”

Ultimately, Volfann’s attitude is what makes him such a valued community member.  “I mostly try to add a bit of humor to the forum and hopefully give someone something to smile about that might help them through a bad day.”

Volfann’s Rig

“This should get lots of laughs from the do-it-yourselfers, but I have 2 Dells. Yes, I said it: DELL. I have built my own in the past, but I like Dells and have had very good luck with them. I use a 4600i model that I bought in 2004. I still have the stock Intel 2.8 gig hyperthreaded processor and Seagate 120 gig SATA hard drive. The twin NEC 3550 DVD burners, Crucial RAM, ATI Radeon X1600 video card and the Seagate 160 gig external HD are from Newegg, of course. I'm not a ‘gamer,’ so it serves my needs very well. My wife is a Sims enthusiast of the highest order so she gets to use the newest computer, which is a Dell XPS 400 dual core. It is stock except for the Nvidia 7600 GT overclocked video card from Newegg.  I am so old school that I still use a 19 inch Viewsonic CRT monitor. My wife has a 19 inch LCD, but I like my old CRT better.”

I have been remiss of late, with the EGG. I do still have fond memories of Jeff Johnson...I really hope the Egg realizes his value ;)

A retired Dad, you make me SICK! I shoulda been there ten years ago, but the lethal ..OOps Legal system in America is most wanting. Menawhile I  finally have my kids; after a $135,000 rape and had my kids while that happened.

Have seriously got of the mobo/hardware track of late, spent many a year optimizing something from nothing ;) Though I'm often ticked with those that don't ask for help b4 they blow a board up! I'm still mused by those that don't bother with understanding a BIOS/Chipset and blame everything on the Devil...LOl

Shucks...Corn in the New World :)

When I was frustrated Volfann stepped in and gave me a helping hand. Thanks again Volfann. I enjoy the opportunity to help others with their PC's, and I love humor.
