Looking to get high definition sound out of your PC?  Look no further than Realtek for the best high definition audio drivers available.  Realtek has created drivers for your IC hardware but may not be 100% compatible with customizations done to your motherboard, etc.  So don't blame me or them if they don't work or cause your PC to self destruct.

Get Realtek High Definition Audio Drivers

I've used their drivers recently to fix audio effects running legacy game titles on Windows Vista.  But, if you are an uber nerd or programmer, they also offer all the data sheets for their audio codecs, hardware, software, etc.  Great company to work with and superb drivers for high definition audio playback.

Holy cow, I honestly did not realize that a Blu-Ray burner could be bought for so cheap.  As of this posting NewEgg is selling an LG Blu-Ray burner for $229.99 with free shipping.  What's even better is that the LG GGW-H20L is not just a Blu-Ray burner, it's also a Blu-Ray player (duh!?) and an HD DVD player.

For those who are familiar with burning Blu-Ray discs, let it be known that this LG will burn both single layer and dual layer discs.  That means you can burn a total of 25gb on a single layer and up to 50gb on a dual layer.

So far the reviews are great for this mildly priced luxury, with 4 out of 5 eggs.  This may just be an early birthday present to myself.

Plasma sounds awesome and when introduced, was the sure fire way to get a super sexy slim TV.  Now that the honey moon is over, what makes the Plasma TV a bad buy, and what are big brand stores not telling you?  Let's look at some of the reasons I wont' be buying a Plasma TV anytime soon.

High Altitude Will Destroy Your Plasma TV

Maybe higher altitudes won't make it explode in a vivid colorful splash, but higher altitudes do cause your Plasma TV to work harder.  Generally any Plasma TV above 7,000 feet above sea level is working much harder than a Plasma TV at sea level. Keep that in mind you richers living way up in the mountains.

Noisy Cooling System

Plasma TV's produce an overwhelming amount of heat and this heat must be dealt with.  So, much like your computer, there are a series of fans within the Plasma TV that are constantly running when the TV is on.  Often times I've found the noise from these fans to be annoying and enough to ruin a movie watching experience. It's 2009, can't we come up with some quieter fans!?

Other TV's besides Plasma will have fans as well, but generally these run at a much lower velocity.  Next time you are in an electronics store, pay attention to the noise that over priced paper weight is making.

Gamer Lag

Even if you have the reflexes of a fox, a Plasma TV will produce lag in your gaming experience.  Basically not all video games are made to display in such high resolutions, so frame rates attribute to a slight lag.  Generally this will only effect games that require specific timing, like Guitar Hero, FPS games, etc...  Casual gamers, you probably won't notice, move along.

Ghosts In My Plasma

Kind of like a typical screen burn, 'green ghosting' is when after a scene changes you still see patterns of the previous image.  This can be a lot more noticable when going from a very bright image to a dark image.  It sucks and frankly ruins my Plasma experience.  It will go away, unlike typica burn-ins, but can make for a crappy viewing experience on games or even movies.

Broken Plasma TV

Conclusion

I don't care that there are not truely competitively TV's on the marketplace.  My beef is with Plasma televisions and I'm very disappointed as a whole.  It doesn't matter what manufactuer it is, a Plasma TV is scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of useful technology.

We need low heat, no ghosting, thin TV's that are capable of lasting 30 years like previous CRT's no matter the altitude.  But I guess then we wouldn't be the throw away society that supports rushed technology and punishes early adopters.

The love affair with anything high definition is over and I(consumers) have selected my mate and I am looking to settle down and have some children.  That means I'm fully prepared to have 1 1/2 children, one boy and dog, to live off the rest of my life with, entertained.  But unfortunately my significant other, Blu-Ray isn't ready to settle down, she still parties on weeknights and stays up till all hours of the morning.  Not mommy material one bit.

So what do, because I decided early, on who I wanted to spend my life with, all my other love interests have moved on. HD DVD decided it was too good for me and moved back home, Hell, she even gave me the key to the aparment back.  I burned my black book of OnDemand HD channels because I've yet to find that a high quality alternative, at least to keep up with my high standards.

Why can't Blu-Ray settle down with me, set some standards, provide some low cost fun?  I've devoted my attention to her, nuturing her, she even gets all the Film Studios she wants now.  Apparently it's not enough, it just spoiled her, so not only do I spend a fortune to play with her, but every time I want a little variety I break the bank too.  Every ring(Blu-Ray DVD) I buy her is just a plastic rip off, but that's all she wants, and the Cubic Zirconia costs just as much as Diamonds.

I hate you Blu-Ray, I wish I could turn back the clock.  The only thing left to do now is make a mix tape of all the songs that make me think of my old flames and drown myself in sorrow and Standard Definition input on a High Definition TV.  Maybe you can move in when you've calmed your high cost ways.  My living room will be waiting on your promises.

*Update - Automakers are getting in on the Blu-Ray bandwagon now, so perhaps their volume purchases will help drive down consumer prices.  Mitsubishi Blu-Ray

Where is the best place to upload HD video?

When my daughter was born I splurged and purchased a new Canon HD video recorder.  This was absolutely the best purchase I've ever made and burning and sharing with family is easy peezy.  However, when I went to share the movies online, I ran into some snags.

For one, this compression takes forever and generally looks like c**p, negating even recording in high definition.  Next, the size limits on uploads for most websites limited my clips to less than a few minutes.  I suppose this is fine, but I've been looking for alternatives to sharing my HD videos online.

DXG-567V is a new high definition camcorder that claims it will be as small as a cell phone, but still capable of recording real HD video at 1280 x 720 at 30 frames-per-second (FPS).  Other than boasting it's capabilities at recording HD video it doesn't look there will be that many more extras thrown in, like zoom, stabilization, etc.  Although questionably, at that size...would it even matter?

DXG, the maker of the pint sized warrior, hopes that this HD camcorder will be mainly used by bloggers.  So much so that they are offering 'Rapid Blog Manger' software with the purchase of the DXG-567V.  Also buyers will get ArcSoft Total Media Extreme software that allows viewing and editing of the HD media recorded.

Last, but not least DXG is touting it's multiple colored approach to the HD camcorder market.  The DXG-567V comes in 4 mouth watering color, Black, Red, Pink, and Sky Blue.  I'm willing to bet they are focusing on the female market, but for that price for HD video it's gonna be hard to pass up.

Anyone else enjoy searching Flickr for setup ideas?  Recently I took a surf through what Flickr users had to offer in terms of high definition setups and here are a few that caught my eye.

According to Toshiba-HD.Blogspot.com Toshiba is breathing life back into it's #1 gaming laptop, the Qosmio.  The upgrade includes a slew of gaming goodies all smashed into a tiny little laptop package ready to be taken anywhere.  At first glance I can't help but think this thing will have some major heating issues, but that's just me.

Well, not just Monster, but the high end cable manufacturer is teaming up with Sigma to bring HD programming to your TV, wire free.  It's gonna be in a box, it's gonna trasmit HD, and it's gonna revolutionize how many TV's you actually watch in HD in your home.

According to ElectronicHouse.com HDTV Kit will be able to transmit full hd, up to 1080p, up to 30 feet.

The new product uses Sigma’s Wireless HDAV for High-Definition (HD) A/V cable replacement as well as its UWB-over-Coax technology.

Do you have spit droplets forming at the corners of your mouth yet?  If so, then imagine this system in your house for around $300.  While that seems a little low for Monster standards, if it reaches market at that price point I'm sure there will be no shortage of demand.

In a stunning move, Toshiba announced this morning in an official press release that they would no longer be producing HD DVDs or HD DVD players.

Official Press Release Here

"We carefully assessed the long-term impact of continuing the so-called 'next-generation format war' and concluded that a swift decision will best help the market develop," said Atsutoshi Nishida,

I'm really, really surprised, but just hopes this helps move things along to being a Blu-Ray friendly world, where hopefully prices will drop. Surely manufacturers will now be able to bring the players and DVDs to every consumer at an affordable rate.

Now, don't go out and buy a Blu-Ray player, because there is a definite possibility that current generation Blu-Ray players will not play next generation Blu-Ray DVDs. PS3 users will have the ability to update their firmware to adapt to thew new, new Blu-Ray format, but others won't be so lucky.

That being said, I'm sticking with my beta max, for now.

Nvidia has been the leader for too long in the high-end graphic card department and ATI just dropped the bomb on the competition. Code named R680 has finally been released under the ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 moniker. Expecting this thing to be powered by a GPU, how about a pair of RV670 GPU's linked up with a single PCB.

Isn't it beautiful? ahhhh. After that soaks in check out some of the finer details of this powerful gaming card, now, someone pass me a wet nap.
