- High Definition Movies VS Standard DVD

- Pocket-Sized HD Camcorder
-
DXG-567V is a new high definition camcorder that claims it will be as small as a cell phone, but still capable of recording real HD video at 1280 x 720 at 30 frames-per-second (FPS). Other than boasting it's capabilities at recording HD video it doesn't look there will be that many more extras thrown in, like zoom, stabilization, etc. Although questionably, at that size...would it even matter?
DXG, the maker of the pint sized warrior, hopes that this HD camcorder will be mainly used by bloggers. So much so that they are offering 'Rapid Blog Manger' software with the purchase of the DXG-567V. Also buyers will get ArcSoft Total Media Extreme software that allows viewing and editing of the HD media recorded.
Last, but not least DXG is touting it's multiple colored approach to the HD camcorder market. The DXG-567V comes in 4 mouth watering color, Black, Red, Pink, and Sky Blue. I'm willing to bet they are focusing on the female market, but for that price for HD video it's gonna be hard to pass up.

- Wireless HD, By Monster
-
Well, not just Monster, but the high end cable manufacturer is teaming up with Sigma to bring HD programming to your TV, wire free. It's gonna be in a box, it's gonna trasmit HD, and it's gonna revolutionize how many TV's you actually watch in HD in your home.
According to ElectronicHouse.com HDTV Kit will be able to transmit full hd, up to 1080p, up to 30 feet.
The new product uses Sigma’s Wireless HDAV for High-Definition (HD) A/V
cable replacement as well as its UWB-over-Coax technology.
Do you have spit droplets forming at the corners of your mouth yet? If so, then imagine this system in your house for around $300. While that seems a little low for Monster standards, if it reaches market at that price point I'm sure there will be no shortage of demand.
- DVD Format War OVER!!! Toshiba Quits
-
In a stunning move, Toshiba announced this morning in an official press release that they would no longer be producing HD DVDs or HD DVD players.
Official Press Release Here
"We carefully assessed the long-term impact of continuing the so-called
'next-generation format war' and concluded that a swift decision will
best help the market develop," said Atsutoshi Nishida,
I'm really, really surprised, but just hopes this helps move things along to being a Blu-Ray friendly world, where hopefully prices will drop. Surely manufacturers will now be able to bring the players and DVDs to every consumer at an affordable rate.
Now, don't go out and buy a Blu-Ray player, because there is a definite possibility that current generation Blu-Ray players will not play next generation Blu-Ray DVDs. PS3 users will have the ability to update their firmware to adapt to thew new, new Blu-Ray format, but others won't be so lucky.
That being said, I'm sticking with my beta max, for now.

- Universal Staying On Board with HD DVD
-
When Warner Brothers took the slip many industry analysts thought that Universal would not be far behind. However, it looks like abandoning HD DVD exclusivity is not in the future, according to VP Ken Graffeo.
Graffeo termed reports that Universal is wavering in its support of HD
DVD as "unsubstantiated," saying the studio has "no plans to make any
changes."
Could Blu-Ray be behind the speculation, to scare people into NOT buying an HD DVD player? Maybe not, but with news like this and HD DVD players being in the $150 range, it might be time to choose a side. Point being, both parties (Blu-Ray and HD DVD) have a tremendous amount of time and money invested, so chances are neither will be going away anytime soon.

- Toshiba HD Players Fighting Back
-
If you care anything about the next generation of DVD players then you will have known about Warner Bros going with Blu-Ray, a supposed killing blow to HDDVD. However, Toshiba has announced today that they are fighting back with HUGE price cuts and a marketing strategy that may pay off for the general consumer.
According to Forbes, Toshiba will be selling next generation HD DVD players for as little as $150. In addition to being the low-cost provider they are also stressing the importance of consumers purchasing an HD-DVD player only and not getting a player with a gaming console. The idea is to show the movie studios that they cannot ignore such a huge customer base, who invested in the technology by itself, not in a bundle with a gaming system(A large portion of blu-ray players in the market are from the PS3 sales).
The theory: play up the acceptance by consumers who have already paid
for HD DVD versus those who get it with something else like a gaming
console, get more players out there—and dare studios to ignore those
consumers.
For numbers sake, Toshiba reportedly had 50% of the next-gen player market share in the fourth quarter of 07. Maybe it's not time to put the nail in the coffin, but for me it's still just too iffy, I like my green backs too much.

- 150" Plasma TV, by Panasonic
-
As geekmogul you know that CES 2008 has seen a number of memorable
events. Some of which are comical, such as the video featuring Bill
Gates rockin Guitar Hero. However, on a more serious note, Panasonic
flexed, showed off, and made the competition feel a little less
adequate(insert male genitalia joke here).
First order of business was to announce a new 46" Plasma TV to their line of Viera Plasma HDTVs. But after the formalities, Panasonic showed off their new LARGEST plasma HDTV evar!

It's new, it's a monster, and it makes their 103" from last year look like baby. So what do you do with a TV that covers an entire wall? Just imagine how far back you would have to set to enjoy a quality picture without enduring a headache. Geesh, I just wish I had a room big enough to put one in.

- Because The FCC Says So
-
Many of us techno peeps have already accepted that HD is the next best thing. However, we all approach it a little differently, whether we are purchasing a nice big HDTV or buying into a format that may become obsolete(see Blu-Ray vs HD DVDs). Despite your grievances, America is heading to an unconditional acceptance to HD...in every home. Why, because the FCC say so, and like God creating the Day, it will be done on February 17, 2009.
So, who gives the FCC the power to make such choices, well President Bush...of course. In February of 2006 Bush signed into law the "Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005". There are aspects of the law that require this shut down, unconditionally. So, such a powerful move has roots in political motivation, why aren't you surprised?
Now the question, how much longer will you put off purchasing an HDTV or HD Tuner? Because no matter what the end is Nie for standard definition broadcasts. But for clarification, this only applies to people receiving channels via airwaves, cable customers need not apply, your set-top cable box will still work just fine. Everyone else will either need to purchase a new HD Tuner equipped HDTV or purchase an add-on HD Tuner. Currently there is an organization that insists watching television is a God given right, so they are working on a system that will administer $40 coupons to anyone that needs a HD Tuner(generally the tuner is in the $60-$70 range).

- Walmart HD DVD Player $197
-
The HD DVD player we had been hearing so much about in the past few months is finally available. This is not the same unit offered on Black Friday at a special price point at $97, that was the Toshiba HD-A2. It's a Venturer brand SHD7000, which sounds fancy, but is it enough at $197? I'm wondering if the price should be lower, especially considering that better brands like Toshiba are already dropping below the $200 mark.
The price is still not low enough to draw me in or other savy shoppers. Right now you can still purchase a Toshiba HD DVD player and get free DVDs, so why spend the same amount or more and not even get FREE HD DVDs? There is a lot on the line for this $100 million dollar deal.
