&lt;p&gt;BT is now more common do to hash files. and there is really nothing to it. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;FTP ( File Transfer Protocol)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Very widely used to send large amount of files from one PC to the next with out a middle man except the ISP.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I didn't include Napster because it was more music ... and I was going for multimedia in general ... &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;FTP is still around and great ... but not really a program or network .... &lt;/p&gt;

Also people did transfer appz as well. I remember because I have used it in the past. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;FTP is still widely used today to transfer files. I know of a couple of FTP sites where a person can DL music, movies, appz ect.... Also if you were to ever look into Linux especially BDS its on a FTP server at Berkley amongst many other Distros. FTP is a network protocol we all know this.&lt;/p&gt;
