The Computer Tree is a charity project started and run entirely by EggXpert users. In the past month, you've probably seen more than a fair share of new signatures on the forum referring to it. As you may remember from the last newsletter, it called for the donation of spare parts to assemble cheap computers for the less fortunate. Working against a small window of opportunity, the inaugural 2007 version was narrowed in focus to only accept donation of already complete, fully functional used computers.
As root put it, they had “17 days to make some miracles” by the Christmas deadline. The last several weeks have been spent in energetic preparation of finding recipients and donors, along with cleaning, configuring and sending machines out – there are actually many more systems offered for donation than recipients to receive them. The effort is currently ongoing and will probably extend past the new year; stay tuned for results and details in the next issue.
