The recent EggXpert election has brought the community a new group of Ubers. But what exactly is an Uber, their responsibilities and their powers?
An Uber is a regular user chosen by their fellow community members in recognition of their knowledge, helpfulness and passion for EggXpert. They are rewarded with $100 to spend at Newegg.com and a private forum where they can relax or discuss ways to improve the forum and the site.
Anything they choose to do is voluntary. They’re expected to follow the same rules and guidelines that all users obey. They are not paid Newegg employees – Newegg staff members are indicated by a purple Egg Staff badge.
The Uber badge simply means the user is trusted, active and liked by the community. They are naturally helpful and readily available should anyone be lost or need advice. They can point new users in the right direction, intervene in heated threads, lock topics, create polls and sticky threads.
They are the community’s representatives. They are never obligated to do anything, but when an Admin or Moderator is unavailable, you can always find an Uber to ensure the forum is a helpful, friendly and clean environment.
Here is a list of the current ten Ubers:
Sidicas and volfann are the only two Mod/Ubers. They have all the powers of a Moderator, but their efforts remain voluntary. Their positions do not expire and are a sign of the trust and appreciation the EggXpert staff has for who they are and everything they have done.
However, the future of the Uber role is slated for change. This past election is the last time users will nominate and vote for Uber representatives. Feel free to let us know what you want improved in this position, including its responsibilities, selection process, or even the name and badge.
